Junior Drama Summer Showcase 2010

An evening of first class entertainment! Monday 28 June 2010

On Thursday 24th June, the Junior LAMDA pupils and Junior Drama Club produced a fantastic evening’s entertainment in the Performing Arts Studio.

The first half was a selection of poems, monologues and duologues. I felt that everyone performed well. Out of them all, I enjoyed hearing Eric Swinn-Ward perform his own poem. I thought that George St John Loder gave a very convincing performance as Mr Fox from Roald Dahl’s famous book and I was delighted with Katie and Coco’s “First Date” duologue. This was fun and entertaining and the best I have seen either of them perform. Well done, girls! The first half closed with a strong piece of theatre from the Year 7 LAMDA girls. They presented 6 different Juliet monologues from Romeo and Juliet which told of the character’s journey throughout the story. They each played their part with conviction and the appropriate level of emotion. I was very impressed with the general standard of acting.

The second half presented a new concept - a 30 minute adaption of Alice in Wonderland - (Alice - in a nutshell!) specially written for the Junior Drama Club by Nikki Etheridge, a visiting director. The children worked hard rehearsing for this show throughout the term and ended up giving their best performance to date. The show looked superb with some brilliant costumes and outstanding make up from our dedicated parent make up team! (Thank you, ladies!) The children produced some lovely characters. They all worked hard and acted well. A special congratulations goes to Suki, who played Alice admirably, Oli - who was an outstandingly peculiar caterpillar, and Alabama - who was a devilishly good Queen of Hearts! Congratulations to all those who took part and a special thank you to Nikki who worked so hard writing and staging the show.
