Evensong at St George's Chapel, Windsor
St Aubyns Chapel Choir sings in historic venue Wednesday 19 May 2010On Tuesday 11th May St Aubyns Chapel Choir visited Windsor to sing evensong at St George's Chapel in the midst of Windsor Castle. This famous chapel is the home of the Order of the Garter and has been a place of worship for around 600 years. It was a privilege for the pupils and the adults singing with them to perform in such a splendid setting. The service was very well attended by St Aubyns parents and by members of the public.
After a tour of the castle earlier in the afternoon, the choir rehearsed in the chapel and had some time to become accustomed to the acoustic.
Evensong itself, attended by the Dean and Canons of Windsor, consisted of plainsong versicles and responses, a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Philip Moore, Psalm 15 in a setting by James Nares, and the anthem 'Holy is the True Light' by WH Harris (a former organist of St George's). Miss Behdad, our Director of Music, is to be congratulated on a choice of music which was so sensitive to the chapel and on the beautiful singing of the choir. The choir have reached a very high standard in recent years and fully rose to this occasion.
