Colts Rugby team retain Sompting Abbotts trophy

For the second year in a row our U11s have won the local rugby tournament for small prep schools Thursday 4 March 2010

In near perfect rugby weather our boys did themselves proud at the very well-organised Sompting Abbotts tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

As reigning champions we knew we had to be at the top of our game if we were to bring the trophy back.

Match 1 v Great Ballard

A great first half performance led to a 14 – 0 victory.

Match 2 v Sompting Abbotts

The boys showed just how clinical they could be with a 40 – 0 victory (in 10 minutes!)

Match 3 v Lancing Prep …. The big one!

An incredibly hard fought victory.  Kofi’s try saving tackle in our 22 led to a well won scrum by Freddie, Sam and Theo.  Matt then released Luca who broke into the opposition’s 22.  A line out was well won and the boys passed brilliantly down the line for Freddie Sywak to touch down.  This passage of play effectively won the tournament.  A 5 – 0 victory.

Match 4 v Broadwater Manor

A comprehensive 15 – 0 victory where Luca shared the ball out very unselfishly to set up several scores.

Match 5 v Oakwood

Our first poor half of rugby meant we were 7 – 0 down at half time.  The boys all rallied and scored 3 tries to secure a 21 – 7 victory and the championship!  The 2nd try was mentioned twice by the tournament organiser.  It involved virtually every boy in the team!

Man of the tournament – Matt Wood

We scored 15 tries (Will B - 4, Matt W – 4, Freddie S – 3, George L – 1, Luca – 1, Freddie A – 1, Kofi -1) and conceded 1.

Very well done to all the boys!
