Choral Day at St Aubyns
Three schools join St Aubyns to learn and perform a choral work in a day Saturday 6 February 2010On Friday 5th February St Aubyns hosted a Gifted and Talented Choral Music Day. This was attended by pupils from Year 7 at Roedean and from Years 5 and 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes and St Margaret's Schools in Rottingdean. In all more than 70 children were involved in the event.
The day started with rehearsals led by Miss Nadia Behdad, Director of Music at St Aubyns, and Mr Robert Hammersley, Singing Teacher at St Aubyns. The chosen choral work was Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo and the children were learning the piece from scratch. An hour and a half of rehearsal in the chapel at St Aubyns was followed by lunch and a well-earned break. The children then moved to St Margaret's Church in Rottingdean to run through the music prior to the performance. Here they were joined by Mr Jonathan Chappel, Drums Teacher at St Aubyns.
At 3.30pm parents gathered to enjoy the children's performance. The massed choirs deserved much credit for the excellent sound they produced together - part-singing, some work in canon and some challengingly fast tunes were all performed with enjoyment and panache. It was a fitting end to an excellent day.
