Brazilian Carnival!

Arts Express Extravaganza! Thursday 2 July 2009

On Tuesday 30th June, the whole school took part in our last Arts Express Day of the year, and what a successful day it was! The children took part in 4 fantastic workshops – all with a Carnival theme. We had visiting professional artists who led the workshops, enabling the children to have four very different creative experiences, precisely what Arts Express is about! The workshops were: Carnival Dance, Costume Making/Face Painting, Carnival Drumming/Percussion and lastly making Carnival Flags.

After the workshops, the whole school gathered on the Croquet Lawn for a Carnival Parade. We set off with drums, whistles, flags and much cheering! It was glorious to witness the children having so much fun and to parade alongside teachers and parents around the top field; flags waving and smiles beaming! We ended up in the gym with a final performance. Each group of children presented something they had done during the day and gave entertaining and energised performances. Overall, it was a fantastic celebration and a magnificent end to another thriving year for Arts Express. Thank you to all those who helped the day run so smoothly.
