Chapel Choir sings evensong at Chichester Cathedral
Highlight of a busy choral year Thursday 21 May 2009Choral music at St Aubyns is thriving under the direction of Miss Nadia Behdad who joined the school last September.
The Chapel Choir is one of three choirs at St Aubyns. The choir, composed of able singers in Years 5 to 8, leads the school's singing in Chapel each morning and performs an anthem at our Friday afternoon chapels every other week. Services at St Margaret's and various concerts through the year give them the opportunity to vary their repertoire and to sing in different settings. However, Choral Evensong at Chichester Cathedral is an exciting highlight for the choristers and a much enjoyed treat which has become an annual event.
The choristers thoroughly enjoyed a tour of the cathedral which concentrated on its art and its history, before rehearsing and being treated to drinks and cake by our hosts. A chance to see on live camera the peregrine falcons nesting at the foot of the spire was an unexpected bonus.
The service was a delight. The music was Ferial Responses, Psalm settings by Walmisley and Attwood, Canticles by Noble and John Rutter's 'The Lord Bless You and Keep You' for the Anthem. The children performed beautifully, splitting the treble and alto lines between them and supported by staff and friends of the school for the lower parts.
It was a privilege for the school to be invited again to sing in this wonderful building and we will look forward to next year's visit.
