2nd Trophy in a Week for St Aubyns!
St.Aubyns Under 13s win the Windlesham Seven a side Plate Tuesday 17 March 2009St.Aubyns Under 13s win the Windlesham Seven a side Plate!
It has been a great week of sport for us at St.Aubyns! On Wednesday the 11th March the Under 13s won the Windlesham Tournament Seven a side Plate! After failing to win our pool we were entered into the plate competition.
We comfortably beat Portsmouth Grammar School by 33-0 in our semi-final. Highlights of this game included two tries from Saviours Ndau and Joseph Monti-Kaye which cam straight from the kick off. Saviours jinked and sidestepped through the opposition whilst Joseph beat them for pace on the outside. Other try scorers in that game were: Alex Yelland, Will Powell and Nick Wright.
The final will remain in all our memories for some time. Our boys showed the utmost commitment throughout the match. This was embodied by the captain Nick Wright who soared for a ball from kick off and ended by scoring our first try. When Joseph scored just before the end of the first half we were confident of a victory. Nevertheless, Warden Park pressed hard on our line at the beginning of the second half and after a tackle by Josephh Monti-Kaye, we were all a little mystified when Joseph was sent from the field! So, we battled with 6 players in defence throughout the second half.
Warden Park did not cross our line again whilst we undertook some determined defending. I must commend Charlie Marshall and Will Powell for this. Just before the end of the match Will Powell broke free and took the outside to use his speed to score a long range try and win the Windlesham Plate! We were all delighted with the 19-0 win and thanks to Gary Marshall and Heather Wright and Mrs.Powell for their support.
Our final statistics for the tournament were as follows: For 81 Against 39.
Points scorers: Nick Wright 3 tries + 7 conversions = 29 Points
Jospeh Monti-Kaye 4 Tries = 20 Points
Saviours Ndau 3 Tries = 15 Points
Will Powell 3 Tries = 15 Points
Alex Yelland 1 Try = 5 points
Charlie Marshall 1 Conversion = 2 Points
Alex Glinwood-Malik also worked well in defence and attack and Connor Smith had his best games for the school in this tournament showing great commitment. Nevertheless, the whole squad needs hearty congratulations. The ‘Men of Thunder’ who won the Windlesham Plate were: Nick Wright, Saviours Ndau, Charlie Marshall, Joseph Monti-Kaye, Alex Yelland, Alex Ginwood-Malik, Bertram Warren, David McKenna, Max Ettinger, Connor Smith and Will Powell.
Well done to you all!
