Crusaders win 2009 Spelling Competition

Closely fought competition for spelling awards Tuesday 13 January 2009

The grand final of the school's inter-section Spelling Competition took place on the first day of term before a packed audience in the Performing Arts Studio. After the preliminary rounds in which pupils from all year groups had taken part, each section presented their Champions to battle it out in the SuperSpellers round.

It all amounted to an exciting, and occasionally nailbiting, competition.  The children showed an impressive spelling ability - and considerable nerve in spelling aloud in front of the school, especially as the words became more testing:  doggerel and exhilarating among some of the more challenging examples.

At the end, the Crusaders romped home to a brilliant finish.  Even more impressive, however, was the fine individual effort put in by Tamsin, the overall winner, together with runners-up Freja, Ed (Year 3!) and David, who were able to keep going long after the others had finished.  Special mention must also go to Nazar and Phoebe who gave sterling, individual performances for the Musketeers and Vikings respectively.

Congratulations to the winners, and well done everybody on a fantastic performance!
